ruby-backports software package provides backports of new features for older versions of Ruby, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install ruby-backports
ruby-backports is installed in your system.
Make ensure the ruby-backports package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep ruby-backports *
You will get with ruby-backports package name, version, architecture and description in a table
